Community honors Jajuan Latham, 2 years after shooting death

Local News

The community came together Monday to remember a Knoxville boy who became the victim of gun violence two years ago.

Jajuan Latham was shot on April 16, 2016, while sitting in the backseat of his father’s car. He had just been at a basketball game honoring the life of his cousin Zaevion Dobson.

On Monday, friends and family gathered at Latham’s school, Bearden Middle. They released balloons in his favorite color, light blue. A tree was planted in his honor and the school placed a temporary plaque at the bottom. It will later be replaced with a bronze one.

State Sen. Richard Briggs last month introduced a bill named in honor of Latham to strengthen penalties for suspects convicted in drive-by shootings if minors are involved.
