Many hearts are hurting as a family grapples with the loss of a young mom. On Sunday, Knoxville police say 22-year-old Tamela Moore was shot and killed.
It happened off Speedway Circle, near East Magnolia. Investigators say the call came in around 10 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11 and Moore was rushed to UT Medical Center where she passed away.
Hearing the news of this young mother’s death, the community is coming together to help her little boy and family during this incredibly hard time.
Tamela Moore was a daughter, sister, friend and a mother.
Friends and loved ones say she had a beautiful spirit, was sweet, loving and caring but most importantly loved her 1-year-old son more than anything.
“She has a 1-year-old child that’s going to go the rest of his life without a mother and my son could be the same way or anybody else’s child,” said friend Troy Byears.
Family shared with WATE 6 On Your Side that Moore celebrated her 22nd birthday last week and this loss is unimaginable. It’s why friends are coming together and collecting necessities like diapers, as well as gifts for Christmas, to help Moore’s little boy.
“It makes you wake up and actually think about what’s going on and how you can make a change in a way. I feel like this is a way I can make a change by helping her out and donating what I can in any way possible,” said Byears.
Moore’s family says they planned a small candlelight vigil on Tuesday but at this point they’re not sure when they’ll be holding a funeral and memorial service.
KPD is still investigating the incident that took her life.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Moore’s son.
