KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A building caught on fire in Downtown Knoxville Thursday morning.
Crews arrived to the scene at the Daylight Building, at 505 Union Avenue, around 6 a.m. There were reports of smoke in the hallways. All occupants of the building escaped safety.
Knoxville Fire Department say thermal cameras were used to locate the fire in an adjoining wall behind a brick oven of a restaurant at 501 Union Avenue.
The restaurant is J.C. Holdway, a new restaurant downtown, which was planning to open sometime this month. The restaurant’s owner is former Blackberry Farm chef Joseph Lenn. Eater named the restaurant’s opening as one of the most anticipated in the country.
Union Avenue at Locust was blocked to traffic until 8 a.m.
