Crossville man charged with attempted murder after Fairfield Glade home invasion

FAIRFIELD GLADE, Tenn. (WATE) – A Crossville man was arrested and charged with attempted murder following a home invasion just after midnight Monday, June 3 with multiple agencies responding. 

Officials believe the home invasion victims were targeted because of their familiarity with the suspect as they all knew each other. 

According to a joint press release by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Fairfield Glad Police, on Monday, June 3 at 12:15 a.m. a residence on St. George Drive was burglarized. A man and woman resided in the home, and barricaded themselves into their bedroom when they realized an intruder had broken into their home. The suspect tried repeatedly to get into their room, but was unsuccessful.

The suspect then fired several rounds of bullets through the bedroom door, then fled the home, officials said. 

The suspect’s flight was witnessed by responding Fairfield Glade police, saying the suspect’s vehicle then turned onto Peavine Road where the Fairfield Glade police activated their blue lights and siren in pursuit of him. 

During the pursuit, police saw the suspect throw something from the vehicle window. 

The short pursuit continued onto I-40 and ended on the Genesis Road exit, officials said. Officers returned to the area of where the object had been thrown, finding a weapon. Another weapon was found in the suspect’s vehicle. 

Crossville Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Fairfield Glade Police Department assisted in the suspect’s apprehension. 

The suspect has been identified as Andrew Nicholas Rich, 29, of Crossville. Rich is charged with 2 counts of attempted murder and 1 count of aggravated burglary. Rich is in custody at the Cumberland County Jail on a $1.2 million bond. 

His court date is Monday, June 24. 

The victims of the home invasion were unharmed.
