East Tennessee parents react to Texas school shooting

Local News

At least 10 people are dead after a school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas. Ten others were hurt including a police officer who is in critical condition. The suspect is in custody and charged with capital murder. He made his first court appearance before a judge on Friday evening.

Nearly 1,000 miles away, the tragedy made an impact on Knoxville families. Pegge Cox’s child goes to school and she could not even watch the news on Friday.

“I could not watch the reactions of those kids who will never be the same. They will never be the same,” said Cox.

It was frustrating for her and other moms to keep hearing about school shootings. Some thought things were going to change after Parkland, Florida. Seventeen people were killed in that mass shooting just three months ago.

“I can’t believe this has happened again and we are dealing with this again and it’s still a problem,” said mom Lindsay Brazier.

According to CNN, there has been, on average, one school shooting every week this year.
