Family of 7-year-old who drowned at Knoxville hotel in 2017 suing

After a third drowning in four years at the same Knoxville hotel, we have learned of a lawsuit a family is filing against the establishment. 

The most recent incident at the Quality Inn off Cedar Bluff Road, happening within the last week in which a 3-year-old boy drowned. 

Before that, a 4-year-old Georgia boy drowned at the hotel in March 2015, and a 7-year-old drowned there in July 2017.

The family of Darshawn Martez Witt, Jr. the 7-year-old, filing a lawsuit last year. 

The suit, planting numerous accusations against the Quality Inn location. In it, claims of neglect on the hotel’s part. Some of the specifics include failure to reasonably restrict access to the water areas and failure to properly train hotel employees. 

The family of Darshawn Martez Witt Jr. is seeking damages from personal injuries, medical bills, funeral expenses and more. 

WATE 6 On Your Side has reached out to the hotel for a statement, but have not heard anything back from them yet.
