NEW TAZEWELL (WATE) – The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a missing man after he responded to a Craigslist advertisement for a job.

The sheriff’s office said Joseph J. Williams was last seen on April 25. His daughter, Susan Walsh, who lives in Connecticut grew concerned and called the sheriff’s office asking for a welfare check.

We went to the residence and he wasn’t there. Was told that he had left on April 24th with a man that he had met on Craigslist to do a job. Evidently, a plumbing job.” said Captain David Honeycutt.

Williams lived with his wife in New Tazewell. On May 2nd, she filed a missing persons report with the sheriff’s office. The investigation and search to find Williams officially started then.

“I’m heartbroken. It’s a feeling inside that just… a pain that I can’t describe.” said Susan Walsh.

Walsh says her brother and grandmother, Williams’ mother, all live in Connecticut. She says she talks to her father everyday and that he is close with his family.

“Best person that I’ve ever known. He loves his family. I was very close to him. I talked to him every single day. I didn’t get a response from him. I knew that day, in my heart, that something was wrong.” said Walsh.

Captain Honeycutt says Williams wife told investigators Williams was planning to work on April 26 with a man named Ben who he met on Craigslist six months ago. They said he had done work for the man before and was planning on heading to the Crossville area at around 7 a.m.

Walsh says it’s not like her father to just disappear. She said he was a grandfather and loved his grandchildren.

“I have 2 nephews. They’re two and three years old. My father lived for them. He loved them more than anything. I just want him to see them grow. I just want him to come home. I just have a horrible feeling inside my gut, inside my heart, inside my gut, that that’s not gonna happen.” said Walsh.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office at (423) 626-3385.
