Federal raid of Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office targeted financial records

State authorities were on hand at the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday to assist in a federal raid. Now the county mayor has released a statement detailing the investigation. 

Claiborne County Mayor Jack Daniels released a statement Wednesday describing the reason for the raid of the sheriff’s office. 

Jack Daniels Claiborne County Mayor wishes to inform the public of the events that happened on May 1st, 2018 when State and Federal Agents picked up the Financial Records from the Finance office and Sheriffs Department as part of an investigation. There have been no charges made against anyone by any of the Agents. The Operation of  Claiborne County Government has not been compromised or affected in any way. 

TBI confirmed that they have agents at the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office. The Knoxville Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation also confirmed they were on hand with law enforcement partners. Both could not comment on ongoing investigations. 

The US Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of Tennessee also could not comment on an ongoing operation.
