A four-month investigation led to the arrest of a Florida man in Knoxville for horrific acts to children.
Detectives with the Winter Haven Police Department say Manuel McGhee, 37, was arrested Tuesday in Knoxville, Tennessee. He has been charged with two counts of sexual battery on a child under 12 years of age. The charges stem from repeated sexual abuse on two children when McGhee lived in Winter Haven.
An investigation started in 2018 after a mother had come forward stating her daughter and son informed her of sexual abuse dating to when the children were as young as five. Detectives uncovered the abuse may have gone as far back as 2009 when the children were living in North Carolina.
During the investigation, police learned of other cases of reported sexual battery that had all been dismissed.
“I can say one thing – that I am so proud of our Detectives and their tenacity to ensure that there are no more children that this monster can hurt,” said Public Safety Director Charlie Bird. “The path of emotional and physical destruction he caused is reprehensible and we will do everything within our
power to make sure he will never be able to hurt another child again.
McGhee is currently being extradited back to Florida.
