KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – The former owner of a Knoxville car dealership pleaded guilty Friday to charges related to tax evasion.

Yawar Sheikh, 63, the former owner of Shimla Auto Sales, pleaded guilty to several felony counts of tax evasion and a felony theft charge over $60,000.

Sheikh must pay restitution and serve seven years of supervised probation.

He was indicted by a grand jury in May 2018 on around three dozen charges after investigators said he filed fraudulent sales tax returns.

Sheikh could have faced up to 78 years in prison if he had been found guilty at trial.
