Former superintendent charged with stealing $300K from Rogersville Water Department

The former superintendent of the Rogersville Water Department has been indicting with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the department.

Shawn Hatchett, 49, is charged with one count of theft over $250,000, one count of theft over $60,000, and one count of official misconduct. He is being held on $250,000 bond.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began looking into the case in July 2017. Agents say they learned between January 2016 and December 2017, Hatchett used his position to steal more than $300,000 from the water department.

A grand jury returned indictments this week. He was arrested and booked on Thursday.
