Free comic books given to kids at Children’s Hospital

Local News

A local comic book shop helped put smiles on dozens of kids’ faces Thursday morning. Nirvana Comics brought in a table of free comic books to give out to brace kids on their way in and out of East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.

This past weekend was Free Comic Book Day at comic shops nationwide. Nirvana Comics wanted to bring that joy to kids who may have missed out while stuck inside the hospital.

“I think the kids here are some of the bravest around, and I think they deserve something fun and unexpected and joyful in their lives, even when they’re on the way to something that could be pretty bad. Maybe we can bring a bit of brightness to it,” said Elizabeth Hinds with Nirvana Comics.

“I know the hospital tries to do little things for the kids just to brighten their day, but these comics, especially for my boys, this is pretty cool,” said a mother at the hospital on Thursday.

Nirvana Comics opened off Kingston Pike just in the last three years. They say comics can be a great way to get kids excited about reading.
