KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Hawkins County Rescue Squad has suspended its search for a missing man who was last seen on an inflatable raft alone on Cherokee Lake.
The rescue squad responded to Cherokee Lake near Quarryville Boat Ramp in Mooresburg around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for a possible water rescue.
A white male with gray hair who appeared to be in his 50’s was seen on an inflatable raft which was blueish in color. A short time after. Soon after, the raft was spotted but the man was nowhere in sight.
The rescue squad, Morristown Emergency and Rescue Squad and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency searched the area using sonar and other search methods.
The search was suspended just before midnight on Wednesday. At this time, no additional search efforts are planned. Additional search efforts may be planned in the event of new information such as a missing person report in the area which matches the description of the individual seen on the raft.
The rescue squad is asking anyone with information about the man to contact the Hawkins County Central Dispatch at 423-272-7121.
Hawkins County EMS and Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the search.
