Early Saturday morning, KFD responded to a house fire in North Knoxville.

After receiving a call from the homeowner, KFD arrived to 1424 Armstrong Ave. around 6:15 a.m. and found flames coming from the historical home’s center balcony.

The family had evacuated safely, and firefighters began battling the flames that were, at that time, climbing the exterior wall into the attic.

According to KFD, one resident told firefighters that he extinguished a cigarette on the balcony could’ve caused the fire in the wall. Fire investigators are working to determine if this was the actual cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.

This home was built in the early 1890’s, and shared the street with three other homes at the turn of the century, according to Trotta Montgomery Real Estate
