Remembering those lost to violent crimes in our area, and their families – that was the purpose of Monday night’s ceremony put on by HOPE For Victims.
The ceremony is held every Christmas season, with a Remembrance Tree set up, each ornament representing a different victim.
WATE 6 On Your Side caught up with a mother who’s been attending this same ceremony for the past decade, and how she started the effort after her daughter, Johnia Berry, was murdered in 2004.
“She’s never far from my heart, and I know it’s very hard for other family members who have lost a loved one,” said Joan Berry. “This just gives us a chance to come together and remember them and do something special for them.”

We are a proud sponsor here at WATE 6 On Your Side and our own Lori Tucker was honored to emcee Monday night’s event.
