Human remains were found Saturday in Speedwell.
The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office says the remains were found around 2:17 p.m. in a wooded area off Flat Hollow Road.
The Denyes family lives a few hundred yards away. The couple says they heard the sirens Saturday afternoon, but thought nothing of it.
“Kind of scary,” said Cindy Denyes.
The remains were badly deteriorated, according to the report. Investigators say they’re working to figure out how long the remains have been there and what were the circumstances.
Deputies with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office say the preliminary investigation revealed that it is unlikely that the remains are connected to an active missing persons case within Campbell County.
“I’d like to know what they find. I guess I’m curious like that,” said Pete Denyes.
“Is it male, female, a kid? It’s sad,” added Cindy Denyes.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is helping with the case. Getting answers as to the gender, race, age, and identity have not been medically confirmed. Campbell County Sheriff’s Office says they’re waiting on results from the autopsy.
“It’s sad somebody lost somebody,” said Pete Denyes.
