Investigation into Morgan County bombing uncovers more explosives, guns and drugs

Two people were injured in a situation involving a bomb in Morgan County on Wednesday. The ensuing investigation uncovered several other explosive devices and bomb making materials. 

Morgan County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 9-1-1 call from a Lancing man who said his pregnant girlfriend had been injured by a firework. Upon arrival, the deputies determined the firework in question was actually a pipe bomb that went off in a shed where a man had been working. 

The female was taken by medical helicopter to UT Regional Medical Center and the male was taken by ambulance to UT Regional Medical Center for treatment.  Both individuals remain in the hospital with their relative conditions unknown.They are believed to be non-life threatening.

A search warrant for a Lancing residence was executed and uncovered more than $1,000 in cash, firearms, methamphetamine and suboxone. Eight separate explosive devices, multiple bomb-making components and instructions for constructing explosive devices as well as two pounds of Tannerite and other chemicals were also found.

An AR-15 and pistol were found in a separate hidden location.  

The ATF and FBI were contacted and the TBI and state officials are coordinating the possibility of federal involvement with the investigation and prosecution.  No charges have been filed at this time due to the possibility of federal involvement and the ongoing nature of the investigation.
