Jewel the Loudon County comfort dog is making her way to Florida to give comfort to those affected by the school shooting.
A church invited Jewel to help those during the difficult time. Two of Jewel’s handlers were in Florida at the time, so they gave a call to her other handlers in East Tennessee and Georgia to drive Jewel down.
“When the pet the dog, and when they interact with animals, it takes their mind off the tragic situations they’ve just been through,” said Judy Schoenherr.
Jewell has been deployed to other shootings and disasters, including after the Pulse nightclub shooting.
