Knox County authorities have captured a suspect who is believed to have fled from the site of a crash armed with a rifle.
Nelson Edward Younce, 51, is charged with aggravated assault and a drug charge.
Arrest records accuse Younce of fleeing the scene of a crash on Interstate 75 near Emory Road around 3 a.m. Tuesday. He’s alleged to have pointed a rifle at emergency workers.
Younce was taken into custody on Heiskell Road just after 6:30 a.m. He was found to have 11.4 grams of marijuana on his person. Another 25 grams was found in his clothing.
The Knoxville Police Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol were investigating a single vehicle accident on I-75 S near Emory Road that occurred around 3 a.m. Tuesday. The driver fled the scene on foot and is armed with a rifle.
