Knox Co. Mayor Glenn Jacobs pitches East Tennessee to Amazon

Local News

Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs explained Monday his fun online pitch to retail giant Amazon that he tweeted at them on Saturday.

The online marketplace announced last week it would pull out of a deal to build a headquarters location in New York City, citing local opposition.

Mayor Jacobs tweeting at CEO Jeff Bezos some of the benefits of moving to this area, like interstates, work force and sports and included a GIF of country-turned-pop superstar Taylor Swift, who’s also called Tennessee home.

“I moved here 25 years ago. I think East Tennesee and Knox County – we’re a well-kept secret and this is a great place and more and more people are learning about it and part of my job is to be the guy who lets everybody know about it,” Jacobs told WATE 6 On Your Side.

Late last year when Amazon was “searching” for a city to locate another headquarters (HQ2) outside of its original Seattle location, several cities threw their hats in.

The Knoxville Chamber of Commerce put in a proposal for the Amazon HQ2 when it first came around.

We’ll let you know if this offer from Jacobs gains any more traction than the last one.
