A Knox County man was convicted of two counts of aggravated sexual battery for molesting a seven-year-old girl.
Justin Dewayne Bumby, 29, sexually abused the girl at least three different times, according to the district attorney’s office. He threatened her, telling her she would get in trouble if anyone found out about the abuse.
The girl eventually told her school guidance counselor about the abuse, which led to Bumby’s arrest.
According to the district attorney’s office, the victim’s mother testified on behalf of Bumby, but the jury believed the victim, announcing their verdict after an hour of deliberation.
Prosecutors will seek a 24-year sentence for Bumby. Sentencing will take place on March 29.
