Knox County Schools board of education approves budget

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – The Knox County Board of Education voted Wednesday to approve the proposed school budget that will now be presented to the county commission.

Knox County getting $7 million more state dollars than it got last year. However, leaders had planned on getting $12 million more insead. 

Still, the budget does include a 3.5% pay raise for teachers. 

School board members also voted unanimously Wednesday night to approve the 5-year Capital Improvement Plan, which includes three new elementary schools. 

On that list, replacing Lonsdale Elementary, adding a new Northwest Elementary to help with overcrowding in that area, as well as building a new, bigger Adrian Burnett Elementary.
