Knox County Schools say student attendance holding steady amid illness

Local News

Knox County Schools will be open Thursday, but officials say they are continuing to monitor the situation as a wave of illness is causing school systems to shut their doors.

Spokesperson Carly Harrington says student attendance has held steady around 92 percent, and staff attendance has improved, but the numbers show a slight increase in the number of requests for substitutes and an increasingly lower percentage that they were able to fill.

Student attendance was at 91.93 percent with 547 requests for substitutes, 71 percent of which were able to be filled.

On Tuesday. student attendance was at 92.03 percent, with 560 requests for substitutes, of which they were able to fill 75 percent.

Wednesday’s student attendance rate was 92.1 percent, with 562 requests for subs, which they were able to fill 69.5 percent.

Knox County Schools were closed Thursday and Friday of last week due to illness.
