Knox County settles lawsuit alleging abuse of child with special needs

Local News

Knox County and the county school board has settled a lawsuit claiming mental and physical abuse of a child with special needs.

Knox County Commissioner Evelyn Gill was the teacher identified in that lawsuit. Gill was placed on administrative leave from her teaching job and later resigning in fall of 2017.

Parents in the lawsuit say Gill abused their 11-year-old child who has special needs while he was a student in Gill’s class at South Doyle Middle School.

Defendants in the lawsuit settlement still deny any liability.

The undisclosed settlement amount will go to medical needs including counseling and therapy for the child.
