The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up their presence on Chapman Highway.
KCSO said Monday they will increase traffic enforcement on Chapman Highway.
“Sheriff Spangler hopes that the increased enforcement will make Chapman Highway travelers more aware of their speed as well as limit distractions while driving,” they wrote on their Facebook page.
The road has been a sore spot for years with the state’s count of 76 deaths on the stretch of highway since 2005.
Improving the safety of the road is also a goal of the Knoxville-Knox County Planning and the City of Knoxville.
A public meeting was held last week for residents to look at plans for taking action and now those residents are being asked to help create a plan. As part of the county’s promise to make Chapman Highway safer, the Chapman Highway Implementation Plan Survey has been created for input on how to improve the road.
