A woman was arrested Thursday night after deputies said she killed her husband in their North Knox County home.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office says Janice Cox, 67, called 911 just before 7:30 p.m. to report a shooting at her home on Tyler’s Garden Way in the Halls community. She said she had just shot her husband.
When deputies arrived, they found Terry Cox, 55, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Janice Cox told deputies she shot her husband after the couple got into an argument. She told dispatch she was bedridden but the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said she is not. A spokesperson said she does have a physical ailment that makes it harder for her to move.
Janice Cox was taken to the Knox County Detention Center and charged with second degree murder. She was released Friday night on $500,000 bond.
Neighbors said the couple moved into the home a few weeks ago and they stayed to themselves most of the time.
“You never know what is happening within the four walls of a normal looking house,” said Jason Parrott.
Most in the quiet community did not find out about it until the next morning. Many had questions about what led up to the shooting.
“Were they having problems and gosh could we have helped in some way before it escalated to this?” said Sharon Warner, another neighbor.
