Knoxville 8th graders learn about the 1960s from those who lived it

Local News

Eighth graders at the Episcopal School of Knoxville learned from real pieces of history on Friday morning. Members of the local community visited the school to share their experiences during the Vietnam War and Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.

Those eighth graders are studying both of those topics in their American history classes, but on Friday they learned something textbooks can’t teach them.

“They knew so many things that were happening. They told us about coming home and their families who helped them get through it,” said student Lauren Klappholz.

The school also donated a $2,000 check to HonorAir. The students worked hard to raise that money.
