Knoxville church donates Thanksgiving turkeys to families in need

Local News

A church here in Knoxville is making sure people have what they need to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Saturday morning, World For Christ Church gave away turkeys to folks who otherwise couldn’t afford them. The giveaway helped serve 100 families.

Church leaders say they usually give away free food every Saturday to the hungry, but this weekend’s program was extra special.

“We had the concept, everybody wants a turkey on Thanksgiving. Some turkeys cost upwards of $20, $30 and it’s just something that a lot of people with low income or struggling people cannot afford,” said Pastor George Morris.

World For Christ Church gave away turkeys to those who need some help affording them.

And the mission was a true community effort. Eppolito Boxing stepped in, serving as a sponsor. It’s something Coach Frank Eppolito said he just couldn’t pass up.

“My boxers, my coaches, families just brought in turkeys,” Eppolito said.

Saturday, the turkeys went to 100 families in Knoxville. The church welcomed them in with open arms.

“No strings attached, no religion, we just want to bless the community,” said Morris.

Now, World For Christ Church is looking ahead to helping out those in need at Christmas. The pastor tells us they’ll hold a toy drive the Saturday before Christmas.
