Knoxville Civic Auditorium-Coliseum to add walk-through metal detectors

Local News

The Knoxville Civic Auditorium-Coliseum, home of the Ice Bears, music concerts, youth sporting events, fairs and shows, will be adding walk-through metal detectors for guests by Friday.

The Coliseum making the announcement via social media Tuesday, saying the effort was to enhance the safety of performers, attendees and staff.

While visitors already go through security measures upon entrance to events at the Colsieum such as purse checks, pat-downs plus the banning of weapons and tabacco, the metal detectors will be installed at all entrances of the Coliseum.

“Staff will be on site to help patrons through the process,” the Facebook post states, adding that attendees arrive early.

This could mean an ’empty your pockets’ security check, prior to passing through metal detection, similar to what some court houses have installed for admittance.

The Coliseum is also asking people who attend events there to minimize the amount of items they carry into the Coliseum in order to “reduce the security screening time.”
