Knoxville communities celebrate National Night Out

Local News

Many communities in East Tennessee are taking part in National Night Out on Tuesday.

Montgomery Village in South Knoxville was one of many communities in the Knoxville area and all around the country marking National Night Out, a day to not only get to know your neighbors, but the men and women who protect these neighborhoods each night.

Whether it’s a block party feel or just turning on your porch light, communities all over the country are coming together tonight to learn more about each other and build their community and the relationships within.

“In the days that follow, if your neighbor needs something or notices something, now they recognize more faces and feel more comfortable approaching law enforcement or even their next door neighbor,” said Officer John Morgan with the Knoxville Police Department Safety Education Unit.

Twenty-one communities in Knoxville are taking part in National Night Out. The events include ice cream socials, potlucks, chili cookoffs or something as simple as turning on porch lights.
