The Knoxville Catholic Diocese, which covers most of East Tennessee, celebrated a special milestone on Tuesday. They marked the 10th anniversary of Bishop Richard Stika’s Episcopal Ordination.
Everyone was invited to an anniversary mass, celebrating the life and work of the bishop. The anniversary is celebrated each year on March 19, which is also recognized as the Feast of St. Joseph.
Bishop Stika says he’s grateful for his time in Knoxville and has high hopes for the future.
“It’s been a busy 10 years – a very fruitful 10 years,” said Stika. “I could not think of a better place to be than East Tennessee. The people, the beauty, just the whole thing. So I’ve got a real sense of gratitude.”
During Stika’s time in Knoxville, he’s created four new parishes and aided in the construction and opening of the new Sacred Heart Cathedral, which opened last year.
He says his favorite part of his position is getting to travel to his many parishes and getting to know so many people.
