Knoxville issues 150-day ban on rented electric scooters, bikes

The Knoxville city council Wednesday enacted a 150-day ban of rented electric bikes and scooters. 

This decision coming out of Wednesday night’s city council meeting with the proposal passing unanimously.

The city says they recognize that these low-emission vehicles can create a more diverse, convenient and accessible transportation option. But they need time to discuss the negative impacts, saying these vehicles pose public safety challenges.

Over the next 150 days city council promising to explore quote “shared mobility” options to figure out what’s best for Knoxville.
