Knoxville police arrested a man connected to reports of gunshots Friday night in the Beaumont area of Knoxville.

Around 10:47 p.m., Knoxville police responded to multiple reports of a man shooting a handgun. Police say he was wearing dark pants and a black hooded sweatshirt.

Once on the scene officers found Daniel Wayne Morgan near Beaumont Ave. and say he attempted to run away from the scene.

After a short chase on foot and resisting arrest, officers caught Morgan. Police say Morgan was intoxicated and had a gunshot wound.

KPD says the gunshot wound was not from officers firing at Morgan, and it is unknown if he was shot by someone else or if it was self-inflicted.

Morgan was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two weapon offenses, evading arrest and resisting arrest.

Police recovered Morgan’s handgun.

One apartment in the area was struck by gunfire, but no injuries have been reported.
