Knoxville man charged with murder after admitting to shooting girlfriend

A Knoxville man has been charged with murder after admitting to a shooting that was initially reported to authorities as self-inflicted. 

According to police, Timothy Dion Wells, 44, has been charged with second degree murder stemming from a Sunday shooting that was originally reported to police as self-inflicted.

Knoxville police responded to a reported shooting on Deer Run Drive on Sunday, March 31 just before 2 a.m. Wells initially stated his girlfriend, Sherril Johnson, 31, shot herself in the head for some unknown reason. 

After being advised of his Miranda rights, Wells admitted that he indeed shot Johnson and lied about it. 

He is being held on $150,000 bond.
