Police say a Knoxville man died Tuesday night after he suffered a medical condition while behind the wheel of his vehicle in the area of Walmart on Parkside Drive.
The Knoxville Police Department says it appears the driver was exiting the Walmart parking lot when he suffered a medical condition. His 2000 Ford Ranger rapidly accelerated from a stopped position, and crossed the raised median and four lanes of traffic. It then jumped the curb and went several hundred yards into a wooded area, stopping near I-40 on the Turkey Creek Greenway.
The driver was taken to Tennova Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The vehicle only had minor damage. The driver’s cause of death is still under investigation.
