A pedestrian in Knoxville is at the hospital in critical condition Monday after being hit by two vehicles.
The Knoxville Police Department says officers were called to E. Summit Hill Drive in front of Weigel’s around 7:05 a.m. The victim was already being treated by firefighters and emergency response crews.
Officers believe the man had just purchased some items at the convenience store when he stepped off the sidewalk in front of a vehicle. That vehicle hit the pedestrian and then pulled into the Weigel’s parking lot to call for help.
While the victim was lying in the roadway, he was hit by another vehicle. That vehicle also pulled into the parking lot.
“I was driving down the street and a man just came in front of me,” Robert Emory, one of the drivers who struck the pedestrian, said. “I tapped him and as I was parking my car to go get help, another man didn’t see him and ran him all the way over.”
He was taken to UT Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He is currently listed in critical condition.
“I was pretty spooked. It shocked me,” Emory said. “I just hope the man’s okay.”
The Knoxville Police Department continues to investigate.
