KPD: Car theft, kidnapping suspect who evaded police in November captured in Florida

The suspect wanted in a Knoxville aggravated kidnapping and vehicle theft from November was arrested in Florida after a pursuit on Friday.

According to KPD, early Friday the suspect, Cody Westmoreland, fled from police in Florida in a stolen car. Florida Highway Patrol captured and arrested Westmoreland, charging him with possession of a stolen vehicle, trespassing, felony evading arrest and resisting arrest.

Westmoreland has active warrants on file in Knox County for an incident that occurred on Nov. 16, 2018, at the Broadway Shopping Center in North Knoxville where he’s accused of stealing a car that had a toddler inside. 

The toddler was unharmed. 

Westmoreland will be extradited back to Knoxville to face local charges of felony theft and aggravated kidnapping.
