The Knoxville Police Department responded to a reported shooting in East Knoxville Thursday afternoon.

The reported shooting happened at a convenience store in the 3000 block of East Magnolia.

According to KPD, the suspect and victim are longtime acquaintances and frequently drink large quantities of alcohol. After an extended period of drinking alcohol, the two men got into an argument, which escalated after the suspect left to retrieve a gun, returning to resume the argument. The suspect then shot the victim.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a male suffering from a single gunshot wound. The injury appeared to be non-life threatening, police say, and the victim was taken to UT Medical Center for treatment. The suspect was apprehended and taken to the KPD Safety Building for questioning.

The investigation is ongoing.

KPD says investigators will speak with the District Attorney General’s Office at the conclusion of the questioning of the suspect in order to place charges.
