KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – One victim suffered a gunshot wound late Friday night after a shooting incident on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in East Knoxville, according to Knoxville police.
The Knoxville Police Department worked a shooting that occurred on the 3200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and is continuing its investigation of the incident.
Police say just before 9 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting; the victim called police from a different location from where the incident allegedly occurred.
Upon arrival, officers found one man that had been shot at least once. Based on witness statements, the shooting possibly occurred in the 3200 block of MLK, Jr. Avenue and the victim was taken to a Dollar General location parking lot on McCalla Avenue by a friend to meet first responders.
The victim was then transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
A felony amount of narcotics were also located in the vehicle in which the victim was found.
Investigators and forensic technicians responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation at this time, KPD says.
No word on the alleged shooting suspect or the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.
According to dispatch, the shooting occurred in East Knoxville on MLK Avenue, but the alleged shooting victim then drove to the Dollar General in the 2200 block of McCalla Avenue, about a mile away, and called 911.
