KPD recruits conduct “DUI Wetlab” training

Knoxville Police Department conduct a “DUI Wetlab” with their academy recruits on Friday, with the help of some volunteers. 

Throughout the training exercise, recruits had the chance to perform field sobriety tests on volunteers with different intoxication levels. 

“Our officers work very hard to detect, stop, and arrest impaired drivers, but we need your help too,” KPD said. “Please always designate a driver if you plan on drinking, educate your friends and family on the dangers of DUI, and report drivers who may be impaired.”

The following are reports from KPD, in 2018 they worked14 fatal DUI related car crashes; in 2019 they have worked several more. In 2018, they worked 321 non-fatal DUI related car crashes; in 2019 they have worked 51 non-fatal DUI related car crashes. So far in 2019, they have made approximately 85 DUI arrests in Knoxville.
