KPD: Shootout leads to vehicle crash, injured driver

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – Knoxville Police Department says it’s continuing to investigate a shooting and crash scene(s) in East Knoxville. 

A shooting reported between several people from two vehicles in the 2800 block of E. Magnolia Avenue resulted in the injury of one driver after the vehicles crashed into one another, then one collided into a vacant business, according to the Knoxville Police Department. 

KPD saying in it press release Monday night that the event occurred just before 7 p.m. Monday, with officers initially responding to a report of a shooting. 

When officers arrived at the Little Caesars Pizza at 2800 E. Magnolia Avenue, witnesses told them that a disturbance had occurred in the parking lot between several people and that they left in two vehicles traveling south on Hembree Street toward MLK, Jr. Avenue.

People allegedly in one or both vehicles were reported to have discharged a firearm as the vehicles where leaving the area.  

Then, the vehicles collided with each other at the intersection of Hembree Street and MLK, Jr. Avenue.

One vehicle, a Toyota Tundra pickup, continued south into the parking lot of a vacant business at 2745 MLK, Jr. Avenue and came to rest after crashing into the exterior wall of the business.

The second vehicle, a red Chevrolet Malibu, fled the scene with significant damage.

Officers were able to locate the Chevrolet a short time later at the intersection of Trigg Street and Barker Avenue, KPD said.

The driver of the Toyota Tundra was taken via ambulance to UT Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained in the collision(s).

There were no victims or known injuries from the shooting, KPD said. 

The investigation is ongoing.
