Transportation Security Administration officials found a loaded gun at a McGhee Tyson Airport checkpoint Monday morning.
Officers found a loaded Charter .38 caliber handgun in a passenger’s carry-on bag around 6:45 a.m. TSA alerted airport police who took possession of the bag and escorted the passenger out of the checkpoint area.
Firearms are allowed in checked bags if they are declared to the airline, in a proper carrying case and unloaded. They are never allowed in carry-on bags.
This is the seventh firearm found at McGhee Tyson Airport checkpoints this year. A total of 16 were found last year.
