Maryville man killed in motorcycle crash

Local News

A Maryville man was killed Monday when his motorcycle was hit by another vehicle.

A report from the Maryville Police Department says Austin Humphrey, 20, was going east on E. Lamar Alexander Parkway on a motorcycle when he was hit by a Nissan Altima driven by John Caughron, 78.

Police say Caughron failed to yield for the motorcycle causing the crash. Caughron told officers he did not see the motorcycle when turning onto Parliament Drive.

Humphrey was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Caughron was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.

Humphrey’s cousin, Jessica Monroe, shared a statement on behalf of their family about Humphrey who was a father to a 9-month-old daughter.

Monroe says Humphrey worked for Blount Tree Service, working to take care of his fiancee.

He grew up in the Maryville area and went to Heritage High School.

“He was such a kind spirit, caring heart, compassionate, I don’t think he even knew when he walked in a room and even smiled how many lives he touched,” said Monroe.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with expenses.
