HARRIMAN (WATE) – A Roane County judge has ordered a mental evaluation for the 15-year-old boy charged with second degree murder in the shooting of a Ft. Campbell Army soldier in Harriman earlier this week.

The shooting happened Sunday at around 7:35 p.m. at a home on Byrd Avenue in Harriman.Previous story: Harriman teen accused of shooting, killing U.S. Army soldier

Court documents allege the teen knowingly shot Specialist Marstratton Gordon in the head with a .357 round after Gordon was involved in assault with his girlfriend, the teen’s sister. The documents say the teen entered the hallway between his bedroom and his sister’s room, pointed the weapon at Gordon, and fired one round. The bullet hit Gordon in the left cheek, killing him.

A judge ordered the teen to be undergo evaluation and treatment at a mental health facility to determine competency and his IQ.

Harriman Police Department is conducting the investigation with the help of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and 9th District Attorney General’s Office.
