Miner killed in Harlan County mine accident

A coal miner died in an accident in a Harlan County mine on Wednesday morning.

The Harlan County coroner told WTVQ in Lexington that Hubert Grubbs Jr, 29, was working in the Revolution Energy Mine when he was killed. The coroner said Grubbs was about a mile underground repairing a belt line when the accident happened around 2:15 a.m.

Details about the accident were not released.

The coroner told WTVQ Grubbs had worked as a miner for 10 years and was married with no children.

His body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
