Missing Athens teen turns herself in after being named attempted robbery suspect

Local News

A 17-year-old Athens girl who was at the center of an endangered child alert issued by the TBI on Sunday night and a suspect in an attempted robbery has now turned herself in, according to her father.

Athens police say when they reviewed surveillance footage of the attempted robbery at the Athens Lodge on Sunday, they noticed Devin Skye Hester with five other people. Not knowing if she was there willingly or not, an endangered child alert was issued.

After interviewing two of the people thought to be involved in the attempted robbery, police tabbed Hester as a suspect.

The group’s last known location was in Riceville.

Athens police believe drugs were the main motive for the robbery. Hester’s parents told WATE 6 On Your Side this isn’t the first time Hester’s gone missing and that she has a history of drug issues. Before she disappeared, her parents said they were planning to send her to a rehabilitation program. She was involved in a rehabilitation program while living at home.
