A 77-year-old man who went missing in Oak Ridge on Tuesday night was found safe by a neighbor a few hours after search parties began looking for him.

Oak Ridge police received a report of a man who went missing in the Rivers Run neighborhood around 9 p.m.  Family members said he went for his daily walk and didn’t return home by dark. When they couldn’t find him along his usual route, they called authorities.

A scent-tracking dog from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office was brought in to help Oak Ridge police and fire crews.

Just before midnight, a family member called 911 to tell police that a neighbor helping to search for the man found him, uninjured.

Authorities say the man fell in the mud and was unable to get home. He didn’t have his cell phone with him, so he was unable to call for help.
