No injuries in Blount County house fire that left home a total loss

There were no injuries in a house fire on Shelby Drive in Blount County, according to Blount County Fire Department.

The fire happened on the 200-block of Shelby Drive just after 12:30 p.m.

The fire started in the basement and quickly spread to the attic.

As firefighters were fighting the house fire, the home collapsed. No firefighters were injured.

The family was not home at the time of the fire.

Maryville Fire Department, Seymour Volunteer Fire Department and Alcoa Fire Department provided mutual aid.

A dog did die in the house fire but no other injuries were reported.

“Disaster I just wish I’d never have to think about again, but I will all my life I guess,” said David Creswell, the homeowner’s dad. “It’s terrible, disbelief. Young couple lost everything. Gone on a weekend vacation for their 10th anniversary, this happens.”  

Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the family.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
