Knoxville police have confirmed an article circulating on social media claiming a Knoxville man was on the run after creating a ‘human centipede’ is in fact fake.

Several viewers called and messaged WATE 6 On Your Side Friday asking if the article claiming a Knoxville man was on the run after committing heinous crimes.

“Fake story from a hoax site”, said Knoxville Police Department Deputy Chief Gary Holliday when WATE asked about a viral article making the rounds on social media.

The article comes from a site, appearing to mimic USA Today’s aesthetic and website URL in order to appear as legitimate. The real USA Today’s website URL is USAToday.com
