ROCKY TOP (WATE) – To commemorate the 80th birthday of Norris Dam, TVA’s first hydroelectric project, TVA is offering offering tours of Norris Dam’s powerhouse, sponsoring a race, presenting displays (including a TVA transmission truck) and hosting a celebration with food, live music, family-friendly activities—including educational performances by “Dr. Energy.”

The “big dam party” is Friday July 29 and Saturday, July 30. It is free and open to the public. Activities are from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day.

Parking for all events will be at the Museum of Appalachia, located at 2819 Andersonville Hwy., Clinton. Shuttles will run to and from the celebration site all day. Water bottles and sunscreen are welcome, but TVA asks those attending the celebration to leave chairs, coolers and pets at home.

People who plan to attend the event but have special needs should call (865) 632-6000 for assistance by Wednesday July 27.

The Big Dam Race

Knoxville Track Club is parternering with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to host a 8 kilometer race that cross Norris Dam twice.

The race starts at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 30. There will also be a two mile walk that begins at 7:35 a.m. along the Norris Songbird Trail.

For the run and the walk, shuttle buses at the Museum of Appalachia, located at 2819 Andersonville Highway in Clinton will transport participants. The first bust starts at 5:15 a.m. and the last bus leaves at 7:00 a.m.
